Introduction to Bioflares' Technology
Bioflares is pioneering a new generation of bioluminescence technologies that bring unprecedented clarity, breadth, and sensitivity to in vivo and in vitro bioimaging. At its core is an innovative chemical–biological platform combining infraluciferin substrates with engineered infraluciferase enzymes, enabling dual-colour near-infrared bioluminescence imaging in living subjects.
Traditional bioluminescence imaging (BLI) methods are constrained by limited wavelength ranges, poor penetration through tissue, and a reliance on single-parameter readouts.
Bioflares’ approach addresses these challenges by:
-
Extending imaging into the near-infrared region, which enhances depth penetration and reduces interference from tissue autofluorescence.
-
Multiparameter capability: enabling simultaneous detection of distinct targets or pathways within the same biological system via dual or multi-colour signals.
-
Non-invasive operation: eliminating the need for destructive sampling or tissue fixation, making it possible to monitor dynamic processes in real time.
-
Higher sensitivity and brightness through engineered luciferase variants that outperform wild-type enzymes in conjunction with infraluciferin.
These capabilities open new frontiers in preclinical biomedical research: from assessing CAR-T cell targeting in cancer models, to tracking multiple stem cell populations or gene therapy vectors in vivo, all within a single experiment.
Bioflares’ vision is bold: to drive a shift from single-parameter imaging to sophisticated multiparameter diagnostics, ultimately reducing reliance on animal studies and paving the way toward clinical imaging modalities that eschew radiation entirely.
With a foundation of proprietary chemistry and enzyme engineering, Bioflares is not just offering incremental improvements — it is redefining how biological imaging is done.
